Experts in Substrate Heating

Refractory Metals

We are happy to offer refractory metals such as Molybdenum, tantalum and tungsten. As a leading manufacturer in the vacuum industry we have worked with refractory metals including; Wires, Rods, sheets and fabricated parts. The wide variety we offer has enabled Thermic Edge Ltd to not only meet customer needs but exceed their expectations with heaters and furnaces.

Refractory Metals Overview

Refractory metals periodic classification of are extraordinarily resistant to heat and wear. This includes; Niobium, Molybdenum, Tantalum, Tungsten and Rhenium.

We at Thermic Edge can supply a wide range of refractory metals in rods, wires, sheets and fabricated parts.

Please contact us if you have any requirements and we will be more than happy to help.

Molybdenum

Molybdenum is a chemical element with the symbol Mo.

Molybdenum material is a silvery metal with a grey cast which has a very high melting point. Because molybdenum possesses a very high melting point, a low coefficient of thermal expansion and a high level of thermal conductivity, it is used in many different industries.

Most molybdenum compounds have low solubility in water, but when molybdenum-bearing minerals contact oxygen and water.

APPLICATIONS

The following industries use Molybdenum:

  • Vacuum Furnaces
  • Electronics
  • Aerospace

Tantalum

Tantalum is dark blue/grey in colour and is very dense, ductile and highly conductive of heat and electricity. Tantalum is renowned for its resistance to corrosion by acids, at temperatures below 150 ̊C it is almost completely immune to corrosion by aqua regia. Tantalum’s high melting point of 3017 °C (boiling point 5458 °C) is exceeded by only a few other elements including tungsten and rhenium.

APPLICATIONS

The following industries use Tantalum:

  • Vacuum furnace
  • Electronics
  • Aerospace
  • Telecommunications
  • Medical

Tungsten

Tungsten is grey/white in colour and is very robust, it has the highest melting point (3422 °C) and lowest vapor pressure of all metals making it a great material for high vacuum technology. Because of its electrical resistance characteristics, it is frequently used in the construction of high temperature furnaces.

APPLICATIONS

The following industries use Tungsten:

  • Vacuum furnace
  • Electronics
  • Aerospace
